Gus Goose is the sole farmhand employed by Elvira Duck and mainly earns the job from the fact he is her grandnephew. Gus is a good-natured and honest guy who cares about the farm's prosperity, but what keeps him from being the ideal farmhand is that he is incredibly lazy. And gluttonous, although that he could be forgiven for if he worked for his intake. Through the years, Elvira has learned to make the best of it, because other than being family Gus is just not the kind of person one can stay mad at for long.
Earning his bread and roof as a live-in farmhand at the farm run by his grand-aunt Elvira Duck, located in the countryside of Duckburg, Gus Goose leads an uneventful life and that's just how he likes it. There's some visitors every once in a while, most of them family, and the incidental criminal who thinks he's dealing with an easy target, but that's it. In addition to Elvira and the farm animals, Gus's immediate social circle consists of Si Bumpkin, the farmer next door, and Cissy Swann, Gus's not-quite girlfriend.
Gus has two notable traits: he can eat more than would be expected of a single person and he can sleep where one would not expect anyone to be able to sleep. Obviously, he prefers a comfortable place to take a nap, but he has no trouble falling asleep while standing up, leaning against a rake or shovel.
Under most circumstances, Gus Goose doesn't strike as the sharpest tool in the shed and under most circumstances that is true. The exception is when cleverness gets the work done faster or for him, at which times he shows himself to be surprisingly inventive to the point of setting up a makeshift automated system. He does understand the necessity of his work at the farm and rarely leaves it outright unattended.
Gus is a tall goose with white feathers. He goes dressed in a yellow shirt and black waistcoat combo finished with a red bow tie and a small hat, which is either green or blue.
Boom! Studios comics
- Gus does not appear in DuckTales, but might have been the inspiration for Vacation Van Honk, a character he is occasionally confused with.
- Because Gus Goose only appeared in Darkwing Duck as part of the cast of "Dangerous Currency", which is pseudo-canon at best, he's technically not part of Darkwing Duck canon.
